make a transition from Notepad++ to a full-featured PHP editor.
I would like it to be freeware unless there is a very compelling
reason to make me part with my money.

On Windows I used Dreamweaver and loved it. It doesn''t have a debugger
and I do not think one is available, but so far that has been my
favorite. Under Ubuntu, I''m using Netbeans with the PHP plugin and
while I like it, I''m still not sold. As for the ones you listed, I
can''t tell you one way or another.
