This is a place for technology discussion in English. But some
unrelated advertisements in Chinese writing appeared on this forum a
while ago. I read Chinese, so understand the ads. They are about
investing money for retirement.
In the meantime, all older topics disappeared for me. I also went to a
community college to check this group again from a public computer.
Still there were no older topics. I suspect the disappearance is caused
by the foreign language postings.
I wonder whether unrelated postings can be deleted, to ensure normal
discussion on this forum.

The length of time that any newsserver hangs onto posts is entirely at
the discretion of the people running that server, but one-two weeks is
faily typical (shorter for binaries newsgroups). If you see a post that
you want to refer to again, then make sure taht your newsreader stores
a local copy of it. If you want to see older messages use an archiving
service such as Google Groups.
I wonder whether unrelated postings can be deleted, to ensure normal
discussion on this forum.

This is not a forum. The chinese spam was automatically rejected by my
newsserver but not by yours, ask whomever provides your news service
whether they can beef up their spam blocking. As for the existing
posts, there''s nothing that can be done about them now. Individual
admins could delete them from their servers but that''s about it.
(Cancel requests would need to come from the original sender, aren''t
universally honoured and only really work if sent very soon after the
post to be cancelled.)

If you "Sort by date of most recent message" then you only seem to get
the past week or two.
If you "Sort by date of first message" then you get the full archive.
I gave up trying to understand the rationale behind the GG interface.
