However, the requirements of a site like bytes are different than mine as a consultant.

I don''t think it''s a matter of which social network is better than the other because each one has a specific target audience.

This is how I see it...

LinkedIn: is tailored more towards professionals seeking to connect to other professionals. It''s a way for you to network with new clients or employers/employees through other professionals that you connect with.

Facebook: is tailored more towards people seeking to connect with family or "friends" from their social networks.

Twitter: ...well I''m not sure what the target audience is. It''s a little crazy on there. If you follow people who are leaders in a specific field then you may get some insight into something. Ordinary people just post anything that comes to mind so it can get a little overwhelming if you don''t choose who you follow wisely. When you choose to follow someone on twitter, you are choosing to get to know the "whole" person...if they are a guru in something, it doesn''t necessarily mean that they will only post insights in their field because they are quite likely to start posting "whatever comes to mind" like the ordinary person.

Bytes is a social community but with a purpose: people seek to help or get help from other people who have experience working with the technology.

There are ways to connect Facebook posts with Twitter posts...and even connect the Twitter posts with LinkedIn posts. But I don''t know if I recommend doing that because what you say on Facebook (for friends and family to see), you may not necessarily mean to say on LinkedIn (meant for other professionals to see).

If you are looking at reaching an specific audience, Facebook has some pretty nice advertising features that let you target your specific demographic. It''s accurate because it uses the facebook-user-profile information to reach the intended audience. It lets you pay for the advertisement based on a budget that you specify (charging you per click, or per 1000 impressions/(times it''s displayed))

LinkedIn allows you to post advertisements and job opportunities but from what I remember it''s more expensive.
