Hi! I’m looking for some ideas for a project. The point is that in the college we have the subject, it’s called Team programming , where we have to create any programming project using any technologies/programming languages/frameworks and so on. It can be anything, mobile application, website, web application, doesn’t matter. Together with my team we have a few ideas so far, but in each of them there is a "but" … It means we want to make both some interesting/original (but we realize it will be not so easy) and something we can do by ourselves, and let me remind you that we are just students with a little experience. We have been learning a several programming languages (Java, C#, C++, C, Python) but we haven’t been creating some big projects or something like that, rather just getting to know languages. Of course, I realize that we will learn new things on a regular basis depending on the needs of the project, we are completely open for that, but we also have limited time (several months) and we don’t want to take something, which may be completely unrealistic with our capabilities. As we don’t have any bigger experience with large projects, it's sometimes hard for us to assess whether a given thing is real at a specific time, etc.

What I have tried:

We have been thinking especially about some kind of medical application, improving the contact between the doctor and the patient, as well as facilitating the storage of medical records for patients, information on medicines to be taken, etc. The patient would be informed when he should take the medicine, he could catalog his results, some pressure measurements, etc., send them to his website account, which the doctor would have access too, so that he could keep track of his patient's health status. There would be all medical documentation also, one could check the composition of the medicines (I don’t know if it is possible to do that, to connect to some database and search specific medicines, checking whether, for example, in the composition of a particular drug there are no components to which the patient is allergic etc.). Everything sounds good but it looks like a little bit such an ordinary database application, nothing special, you know. We would like to add something else, something element which would be the main one, an interesting element that can be presented in a nice way, maybe using some visualizations. We have been thinking about machine learning in Python, some image or speech recognition, something like that, but every single thing which comes to our minds, it seems too complicated, unfortunately. For example, sign language recognition, I think it would be a really great feature. The user could use his smartphone, not knowing sign language, communicate with deaf people. But here, unfortunately, it would be difficult to smoothly register and process the image from the camera/cameras, these movements are quite complicated (in sign language), there are many of different signs and in addition the sign English language it’s different than for example, sign Polish language (I’m from Poland that’s why I put this language  ) - but it would be possible to omit it and make only a one version (for example Polish language version, doesn’t matter). Well, but as I mentioned, it is rather unattainable for us at this moment, I think so, or maybe I'm wrong, maybe it can be done quite simply? And here is my question, what would you suggest to somehow develop, enrich such kind of application, add something? Do you have any ideas? It would be nice to use, for example, the mentioned machine learning (this is an interesting for us). We generally think about a mobile application and maybe a website/web application. Maybe you would write which technologies, frameworks, tools we could use, etc. :) Thank you in advance for any tips and ideas!

This sort of question is almost impossible to answer since we know so little about your actual abilities. You mention that you are students and have been learning five different languages. That in itself is likely to cause more problems than it solves. Select a single language and work on getting a thorough understanding of it, and any associated framework. Once you reach that stage you can start to think about creating applications. Start with some simple ones and work your way toward the more complex. For example, you could start with a simple appointment scheduler for your medical practice. Once you have it working satisfactorily you can start to add features that are generally used in real life.
