Too bad Dash buttons don't work on NFC. The range of NFC is just a few centimeters.

Dash buttons are programmed to use your Wifi network using sound, in frequencies we can't hear.

You hit the button and the Dash button uses your Wifi network to contact an Amazon web service that places an order for the item the button is programmed for.
