You can look at the source code for the page when registration is closed, and determine if there is any time sensitive code in there that enables a button, but it's highly unlikely: it's much more likely that the HTML sent out when registration is open is different and only that contains the button you want. That's certainly the way I'd do it ...

Which means the only way to "cheat the system" would be via the server based code, and if they are at all competent then you won't have any access to that at all.
