You're not going to do this in a single application.

The ASP.NET site is just going to be for presenting data to the user. Another application(s) will be required for your "real time monitoring and data collection", whatever that means.

You haven't said anything at all about what kind of problems you're having, but I will say this. Since you're "new to the field", you're not going to get very much information you're going to need from asking questions in forums like this. You're best bet is to pickup a few books on ASP.NET and MVC and work through them. You're not going to learn very well from "trial and error" programming and you're just going to waste a ton of time without ever getting to your real applications.
