You don't.
A "barcode number" is just that (it's technically called an Article Number") - a number which uniquely identifies a product. Each variant of the product will have a separate Article number: so one for the 250g version, a different number for the 500g packet.

The number does not encode any information (except for a checksum to ensure it is a valid read) - you use the number to lookup the product details such as description, manufacturer, prices, etc. from a database - usually part of or connected to the POS system.
