Gesture recognition is not an easy task.Before go to coding part, go through some research papers.Get an idea about different ways of capturing and analyse of gesture methods.For gesture capturing you can use color gloves,kinect sensor, finger identification using some color rings etc. Also have a look at some noise filtering methods.If you are doing it in a dynamic background i recommend you to read about background subtraction techniques as well .For analyse and recognition of the gestures you can use SVM,Template matching (very basic method),Neural networks etc.By reading others research papers you can find out a way to start your project.It will be a hard task.But you will learn lot of things while you are doing your research.Good luck with your project. :-)
