We have around 10 million documents in our SharePoint farm and now plan to add few more servers to the existing search topology.

I understand the process to add a server(briefly) is

But my concern is on existing Index, is it mandatory to do Index reset before starting the above process or can I go ahead with the steps without an Index reset and hope there is no issue with Indexing when the new topology comes live.

Resetting the index should be done in the following scenarios

• 索引已损坏

If you're adding another Index component to the Search topology it could be a good idea as well, in my opinion; remember to stop all the crawls before doing that.
