Currently I’m using Rackspace Virtual machine for my application server and plan on moving to Azure Virtual machine. My app client connects to my app server (running on Rackspace Virtual machine (Windows Server 2012) using a fixed IP address (162.209.78.63, my Rackspace ipv4 address).

For my Azure virtual machine, I was assigned a public IP address of 13.91.46.213. This address does not show up as a ipv4 address like in Rackspace, therefore, my clients can’t connected to my app server. I can change my client and server software if I know how my Azure public address can be used to connect to my virtual machine running my app server. I am developing the client and server app software on a Windows 10 Surface and the ipv4 address connection method for connecting has been working on Rackspace with no problems. It is the standard method for a client to connect to a server.
I would appreciate any info on how I can do that.

I can connect to my Azure virtual machine with Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). My client app cannot connect to my server app running on Azure virtual machine. My app server and client have been running on Rackspace for a few years with no connection problems.
