Could you tell me whether the new Visual Studio Project System framework is dedicated only for project types which have MSBuild format of a project file? Or is it appropriate for custom project file formats, too?

Do you use the Project Type project to create new project?



After my check, if we use a custom project file formats which not the msbuild format, the project can't work normally and will give the error message "xxx is not recognized".

So if the custom project you mean is some changes into project file but not affect the msbuild format, it can be used in VSPS, but if something like:

<MyProject>
 ...
</MyProject>

It can't be recognized by VSPS. For now, the framework seems to haven't support for this kind of custom project file format.
