I'm using an Azure App Service and turned on filesystem logging (for 12 hours). I ran a process that used Trace.WriteLine to log Verbose level log information. In attempting to access the logs, Download Logs shows FTP and SFTP addresses and my username. Though setting my FTP password in the Deployment Center, I attempted to set my password. However using multiple FTP clients I find myself unable to connect to the Azure server to download the logs. And using the cloud explorer in VS2017 I can explore many log files but none that appear to be the application logs. Why am I unable to connect via FTP to download the logs? Why is FTP the only approach do to do? Am I missing the part in cloud explorer where I can see the logs? And why isn't there a UI for viewing the logs in the Azure portal?

Since you are using Azure App Services, you can directly view or download the logs from kudu console of the app. You would need to browse <webappname>.scm.azurewebsites.net and kudu console would open. Then you can select debug console --> CMD or PS --> LogFiles folder. You can see the logs in the folder.
