Forgive my lack of knowledge on this, but before I proceed with enabling ADDS, i want to be sure i understand this functionality.  May i use the primary domain name i have for my azure ad tenant as I will for Azure active directory domain services? or will i need to secure a custom domain name to enable this service on?  I have several custom domain names in Azure Active Directory, and the primary name is what i thought i could use to enable ADDS on.  Is this just creating a "trust" in the background?

Previously, we were going to stretch a DC to our Azure tenant but recently read about ADDS, and understood that this service would allow us to domain join VM's we want to build or move to the cloud.  appreciate the clarification.

You can use any of the verified domains on your tenant.

Note it won't link the VMs to your on-premises domain in any way. It will just create a new domain service based on the domain name you choose and will allow your AAD identities to sign into those domain joined VMs.
