The main advantage to Project connection managers is that you have a single place to change the connection information and that place is obviously tied to that connection. If you use a Project parameter, it is not obvious that that is the place that you would need to change.  Now if you are running different packages with different databases or servers at run time, then a parameterized package connection manager using Package parameters would be best.
