I want to create workflow that sends reminder emails once a month and an email when the the End Date is reached. I was looking into retention policy to achieve this. I would like to avoid pausing the workflow as it can be resource intensive and this list will contain many items.

Ideally I would like for this workflow to run daily to see if the current date is the first of the month (thus running once a month) but according to those sources it sounds like it will only run once a week. That means it will be very unlikely for the workflow to run on any exact date. Am I understanding this correctly? If that is the case, what does it mean when I have the policy's recurrence period to 1 day if it only runs weekly?
