I want to try out the new Azure AD Password Protection service on-prem, but when I go to configure it, everything is greyed out. I do notice that the greyed out values are consistent with the settings in my on-prem Domain Controllers.  Does this mean I have Azure AD in read-only mode? do I have to allow Azure AD to write to my domain controllers first?

I am assuming you are referring to the password protection page from the Azure portal.
