I've been doing some testing on my Samsung unit.   Interesting results, at least according to the battery life indicator in Windows 8 (and seems to be borne out by testing the actual drain on the unit).   I'm trying to use the BUILD machine to build some mobile apps, and this is hard to do with the unit lasting only as long as it does.

If I set the unit up to use the Balanced performance battery settings, my battery life is actually BETTER than if I use the maximum battery life setting.

Performance gets worse when I try to clock down the CPU, using the "set the maximum CPU performance" to, say, 50% or even 40%.   Anecdotally testing the unit with that setting also seems to produce no lessening of performance, at least testing playing videos or music or browsing.

Putting the unit in Airplane mode (turning off Bluetooth, WiFi and broadband) also seems to have either NO effect, or a NEGATIVE effect on battery life.

I seem to get better battery life with the screen set BRIGHTER, not dimmer.

Does my description match what MSFT has seen?

So the question is this:  Should we expect that there will be forthcoming device (BIOS or other firmware) updates that may push the battery life to near what the 700T is, or am I missing something that could considerably improve things? (maybe some hidden setting that allows the thing to actually turn off devices that are draining it).

And the follow up:  Should we expect that the Beta will add some features that allow us to really control battery life on the unit?

Or, does nobody believe the battery life on this unit can be improved past what we're seeing (around 3 hours or so, depending on how one "drives").
