I am trying to create a discount so that anyone who is new to the site, registers with us and then receives a 10% discount on their order.  This will only apply to new users and not current users, has anyone got any ideas of how to do this?

What is the criteria for new user or existing user? I think you can use UserType field to differenciate & this field holds values such as "New User", "Registered User" and "Guest User".
