Good morning,

I am using a compaq nc2400 laptop with 2GB memory. I am running windows 7 beta build 7000 (The general public beta release)

I have huge problems with the searchfilterhost.exe process, which periodically starts taking over the memory on my PC - increasing its memory usage until it is using approx 1.4GB of memory - at which point the computer has slowed to an unusable state.

If I close the process, the memory in use immediately decreases and after a couple of minutes the system begins responding again - although searchfilterhost.exe starts up again, and then may after time begin hogging the memory again.

It does not use much CPU time (which is why I have started a new question rather than posting into the existing one about the CPU usage of this process)

If I leave it for a very long time - couple of hours it sometimes does eventually resolve itself and return the memory- but that is pretty pointless.

I have kept up with all the latest windows updates.

I also run Office 2007, and some of the windows Live essentials programs e.g. the photo gallery.

The indexer shows that approx 135 000 files are indexed (though this is still increasing)

I tried to do a memory dump, but after about 20 minutes it failed. (I forgot to copy the failure message, but basically it said that it didn't manage to write all the info from memory. I don't know if/where it may have stored the partially completed dump file.)

I would appreciate any help on this.
