We have Windows Server 2012 R2 in Hyper-V.

Now for Backup purpose I am able to copy Running VM's .vhd or .vhdx to external drive.

Is it Safe or Recommended  , Because while copying it didn't ask the file is in used or File is Locked if the VM is Running and I can copy without errors.

I think it's safe, because copying a file does not modify it. This won't affect the running VM.
