I've installed my drivers and SDK for kinect2 and installed as advised in the manual , purchased a dedicated usb3 controller (with enough power through extra sata connection) The light on the power/usb connector is white, but I cannot seem to get the device to work.

What is the chipset of the card(Renesas or Intel) Try other slots on the motherboard, including the one for your GPU. In the case of moving your GPU, it should be able to plug into another slot without issues but will help you get down to the connectivity issue.
