I would need to install Windows XP embedded studio to Windows 10 machine running SQL server 2014 express. I cannot install the component database. Is there any shortcut or should I install that on virtual machine running XP?

I think SQL 2008 Express  was the last version that would work with XPe. I recommend that you setup a VM with Windows XP or Windows 7 and then install the tools with the SQL express that comes with the tools.
