I am currently using Windows 7 64 Bit and I have decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1. I think I have all the bases covered before I upgrade, but this being my first "Upgrade" instead of a clean OS Install on a new Hard Drive I just wanted to be sure.

I have decided to go with the Retail 8.1 because of the PC Transfer feature because I will probably be using the same disk when I get a new computer in a year or so. Also this will be a clean install of Windows 8, not a upgrade from Windows 7

Checklist:

Have all files on a reserve 500GB Drive (Pictures, Documents, Music)
Have a way to install all the programs I need to when I do the OS Clean Install ( http://ninite.com/ )
Have a program for the Start Bar ( http://www.classicshell.net/ ) Have any suggestions for another just let me know.
Be ready to wipe all non essential drives when I do the Clean Install

Looks good to me! One possible thing I can think of is having a BIOS update done if anything notable is ready, and maybe having Win 8 drivers ready after the install too, in case the Ethernet driver isn't there.
