Hello:
I am starting to catch onto how MS Project stores things, at least I think I have.
I have 6 separate projects and one master project. I have pulled all the subprojects into the master and everything is working great.
I am trying to keep them all in the same format. So, this is what I am doing.
1. I make a change to field Number1 in project 2.
2. I go into the Organizer by View->Filters->More Filters->Organizer->Fields. Then I copy this updated field into Global.MPT.
3. I then open the remaining projects 1,3,4,5,6 and repeat the steps from Step 2, with the exception of copying the updated field from the Global.MPT into the subproject.
4. First is there a shortcut to the 'Organizer'?
5. Am I doing this right? Seems there would be a more efficient way of doing things. For example, how do I force the project to look at the Global.MPT file first. If not found, it then looks at the subproject for the field(formula, etc.)
I am using MS Project 2016

As far as a shortcut to the Organizer, try the Developer tab on the ribbon. Or if that's not showing for you, just try File. In either case you can more quickly get to the Organizer than using your approach.
As far as a more efficient way, unfortunately, there isn't. Custom fields are a little tricky. If you have a custom field in your Global and create a new Project file, that custom field will be available from the Global and it will automatically be copied to the new file as soon as you access it (e.g. add it as a column in the view). However, if you have an existing file, the custom field in the Global will NOT be available in the existing file. You'll need to use the Organizer to copy it over, just like you're doing.
