for Xvaluetype and YValueType . What does it signify? When is it used?

From the following document:

ChartValueType Enum

"Auto" means property type is set automatically by the Chart control.

>>When is it used?

You can use it when you want the chart to automatically determine the type or you don't know the type.

>>If i just want to show how a range of values read from an excel sheet vary, can i use it?

Yes, you can. But, I'm afraid you'd better set a type yourself instead of determining the type by chart.
