Has anyone been able to get the Mobile Report Publisher's Time Navigator to work with a SSAS Tabular data source ? I have tried formatting the date many different ways in the Tabular model based on these formats:

After adding the Time Navigator when doing mobile report design, it doesn't give me the option to use my data source, just the simulated data source. My data source shows up for other charts.

Anything obvious I could be missing? I have made sure to deploy the Tabular model after making date format changes. I have also refreshed & re-added my data source in MRP.

Based on my test, if the source table doesn’t contain a valid date/time column, the "Series for background chart" will not allow us to select other dataset. In your scenario, you can create a shared dataset points to dbo.DimDate table from this sample database AdventureWorksDW2012, then deploy this dataset to report server. Add this dataset to Mobile Report Publisher. Please check if you are able to set other dataset for Time Navigator like below:

If that is a case, it supposed to be the issue with your SSAS data source. Please double check date/time column in source table.
