We are trying to detect any cellphone that's put on the surface. We've used the regular API for blob detection in TouchDevice with the Touch Events

I had the same problem using a phone of mine that has a black case. Have you tried using the XNA Raw Image Visualizer to see if there's a difference in the Surface recognition?
