For now, we are  setting our generic resources to represent the capacity of the resources we have in the organization. For example, we have 8 actual resources for a Tester. We want to set up a generic resource with the same name "Tester" as the role and set the capacity of the resource to 800% to represent our named resources capacity.

In individual Projects and on a Phase level, we want to submit resource engagement on the generic resource. These estimates on the generic roles will be used in the portfolio analysis.

Our reasoning is to know the resource supply and to identify future demand pain points. We also don't want to be restricted in having named resources in the schedule at this time because the work is fluid and can be done by anyone in that role - Considering resource unpredictability, etc. Also, we don't know at this time which resources will be available to do what particular task since we are operating on a Top Down Portfolio Approach.

Do you at least have resources as named resources, even if there isn't a user account associated to them? If so, I'd recommend using Team Assignment
