Hi Code Project!

I was thinking how packet sniffers work and it confuses me. With applications such as wireshark etc.. it needs you to be already connected to the network to receive packets as i believe so far!

(Please Correct me if i am wrong..)

So my question is, is it possible to pick up any packets going to or from the router without being connected to a router if that makes sense. Receiving packets over wireless? I plan to use this to find out if there is a lot of traffic in my area, As my network seem to drop out at certain times of the day...

If it is possible, would it be able to log if so also Bluetooth and Radio signals etc as well?
I realize that this is a Coding website which is why i have asked the above, as if it possible i will try and make a application out of it but just dont know if this is possible!
