We have 9 Team Project Collections which are actively used.  Within each project collection are two team projects.  Is there any existing way I can create a query which spans across project collections? Preference would be creating a query in Visual Studio but any other suggestions appreciated.  It seems not possible from what I've read but I thought I'd ask the collective mind.

My workaround for the moment is to create Visual Studio queries in one project collection, save to WIQ, manually edit the xml values then reopen in next project collection and save as new query.  This is for cross team governance and reporting.

You can't create a simple query between collection in TFS/VS.

However if you check this article you could find out that: 'it is very easy using command line tool tfpt.exe from TFS Power Tools using the query command and iterating over all collections."
