Is there by any way the function in Visio2010 to automatically arrange images based on cell entries in a spreadsheet or list?
I have a large list of data representing our inventory. At it would be amazing if I could leverage the existing data to contruct a rough physical layout of each item.
Every item in the list has a number which specifies the row, column, and shelf it is stored on. Only one item is stored per shelf.
My interest in this is it would be incredibly useful to have a visual diagram of the inventory that can update its self as the core datasheet is updated. Especially in instances of items being moved.

Hi Aaron,
One approach would be to use the Link Data to Shapes feature in Visio to bring your data into the Visio drawing and display it on shapes within the drawing.
You could:
1. Create a Visio drawing showing the inventory shelves
2. Link the inventory data to the drawing
3. Link inventory records to individual shelves.
4. Create a data graphic for the shelves to display the inventory data
5. Refresh the data in Visio whenever your data changes. The data graphics in Visio would update automatically during the refresh.
This would allow you to do the basics of what you need with an"out of the box" solution.
Visio is highly customizable so you could then take the solution further by creating custom shapes to display the inventory and to automate the data refresh.
