Here's the problem: I'm able to send mail one, maybe two times then i get time out errors returned by my application. Sometimes I can shut the application down and restart it to send again. Other times I have to shut Visual Studio down before I can send mail again.

It sounds like you may have some connectivity problems between your remote site and the TFS server.
