I have a custom pipeline component. When we apply a map at the receive port that has this pipeline component at the Receive location, the map does not get executed.
If we create a send port and subscribe on the basis of message Type and apply the same map as an outbound map, it works.
Problem : we need to apply the map at the receive port. what can be the reason for the map not to execute.

Is the messagetype getting messed up/not being promoted correctly due to the custom pipeline component?What are you doing in the custom pipeline component? What stage of the pipeline is it being used?
Details of how a map is resolved at a port can be found here-
One thing you can try : Un-enlist the SendPort that is subscribing to your ReceivePort with the custom pipeline component, so that the inbound message gets suspended. Now check from Admin console the message context properties, etc. on the suspended message.
