I have added a column to the Gantt Chart template that comes with Visio (2016). The column header is Task Notes. I have 3 types of notes (i.e. the note will be one of three possible options). Ideally, this would be in the form of a drop down list, as I will need to reuse this template many times.

The more important goal of this post is to figure out how I can setup conditional formatting of the Gantt chart bar. If the Task Notes column says Option 1, I want the bar to be green. If Option 2, the bar should be purple. If Option 3, the bar should be some multi-coloured variant, or something else.

Can anyone advise on how to achieve this?

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, there is no Conditional Formating feature in Visio 2016 to set the task bar color. We can just format the bar color manually by right-click it and using Format Shape.

Please consider to use Excel application for conditional formating setting as a workaorund.
