Hi ,

When creating the unit node of a shopping product, is it mandatory to provide the Bid for the node? 

In the remarks section here,

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/bing-ads-campaign-management-fixedbid(v=msads.90).aspx

there is a mention that if the bid is null, the adgroups bid will be used. I am getting error when keeping the Bid object's amount to Null.

Can you please suggest which is the best approach?

Good catch! The remarks you found were written for AdGroupCriterion with Product - and do not apply to ProductPartition (used with Bing Shopping Campaigns). The ad group bid is not used as default, so you must specify a bid amount when adding ProductPartition. We will update documentation to clarify. Please reach out if you have additional questions.
