We have a published app in the marketplace but we improperly thought that the name displayed in the app hub will be displayed also in the marketplace.

Is there a way to update marketplace name of a published app? Is it possible to have different app names in the marketplace and in the phone ?

I doubt. The application name in the market and phone are taken from the Title of your project.

So I think you will have to update the title and resubmit the new .xap.

Although you can have a different Title for your Tile: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsphone/develop/ff462080(v=vs.92)
