Windows 10 for Raspberry Pi 2 is an interesting concept.
It would seem that MS is reaching out to folks who have turned their backs on Windows and PCs and are seeking different paths.
That is, until you look at Microsoft's installation instructions for Windows 10 for Raspberry Pi 2.
Missing from the requirements?
- A PC running an unreleased/beta version of a Windows operating system - and this PC must be dedicated to this unreleased/beta OS; and no, other Windows OSs or VMs aren't, "officially," supported.
OR
- You could download hacks from other sites to try to copy MS.s FFU image to a SD card
OR
- You could hexedit some binary to make the process work (that's ON a Windows 10 PC)
Or...
So, I'm a little confused. Microsoft is supposed to be inviting folks in, saying, "Hey, look, we've changed..." But really, they haven't. There's still that $100 cover charge to get in to their version of Tech Noir. Could they have produced a .IMG file that Raspberry Pi users already know how to "burn" to a SD card? Sure. Gosh golly, that would have even been supported by Linux and Mac users, as well as Windows users running *production* released of Windows. But NOOOO. Not Microsoft.
It's IE and Java all over again: MS ignores the standard that's already there in favor of
their own twisted path through the woods.
Sorry. It's the same-old same-old in Redmond. It doesn't matter if the guy running the show is named Bill, Steve or Ray. Nothing, but nothing, has changed.
