Is it possible to "sort" a series of single-digit numbers within one cell?

In particular, I have an Excel Spreadsheet which has one column containing single digit numbers (1 to 8) representing the status of each customer, one per row.

For instance, "1" means the order is accepted, "2" means it is being processed, "3" means paperwork has been printed, but not necessarily in that order. So, we might have a cell containing "1 3 5 2 6 4 7", which I would like to sort into "1 2 3 4 5 6 7" for ease of reading.

All I have been able to think of is at the time of insertion, examine each existing digit and place the new value accordingly. But, moving and placing the digits is causing somewhat of a headache.

I would very much appreciate some help.
