I find it rather contradictory that Microsoft is not planning to do any new work on previous versions of CF, when according to this article Microsoft specifically recommends Windows Mobile 6.5 for Enterprise hand held customers. Not WP7 or Windows Embedded
Compact 7 (which I assume is CF 3.7 based like WP7). I would hope that some resources can be dedicated to updating the WCF support on Windows Mobile and resolving these problems because developers like us are pretty much stuck with it, and device vendors like
Intermec as just following the recommendations from Microsoft and sticking to Windows Mobile 6.5 (or Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 if you will):

As most people reading this are probably aware, even if our device vendor did decide to offer a WP7 derived OS for their devices, Windows Forms no longer exists on that platform and we would be required to re-write our entire application stack for these devices
to WPF. It seems to me, just like Windows Forms on the desktop, there should be more support committed the Windows Mobile 6.5 and making sure it can interoperate with modern technologies.
Not having a good, solid WCF foundation on Windows Mobile is a problem. It would be really nice if Windows Mobile 6.5 was a supported platform for WCF Data Services clients also (OData), since that would appear to be the way forward for data services anyway.
And then to top it off, Windows Mobile 6.5 still suffers from the 32Mb process address space present in Windows CE 5. I assume this is something fixed in WP7, but it sure would be nice to be able to write enterprise LOB applications for handhelds running Windows
Mobile 6.5 that contains nearly a gigabyte of memory, to be able to use more than 32Mb for one application! Our handhelds have a lot of memory and being stuck with only 32Mb per application really does make us work harder to get these devices to integrate
well with our business applications.
Microsoft really should do a Windows Mobile 7 release based on the new CF 3.7 libraries, add fully functional WCF client support, fully functional WCF Data Services support and lift the 32Mb process address space limit.
