I installed VS Express 2013 and then the Kinect V2 SDK (VS was not running, Kinect Sensor disconnected).

The Kinect device doesn't have special project types for VS.Net. So it's probably just the default C# project type that is giving you issues. Which sample project are you having issues with? All of them, or just 1 in particular.
