i am currently doing a project which involves using 3d facial recognition software. i am wondering if we could build this software, using the Kinect camera. can the stated camera that works with an external device. example, an LED and a micro controller. give u a scenario. when face is being recognised, it will send a signal to light up the LED or send a verified signal to the micro controller to run a dc motor.

There are several layers to the scenario that you may need to account for. Considering the face tracking api's are designed to detect once the face and person is tracked.
