I've lined up 21 VOB files for encoding to h.264, added metadata and set a custom thumbnail for each file.

Of these files 5 of them generated incorrect thumbnails. That is - thumbnails were generated, but not from the timecode I specified. And it's not the first non-black frame either.

So I thought that well, unexpected things can happen when a certain amount of files and gigabytes are involved. I lined up the 5 incorrect files again and did a new encode. (I based myself on the same VOB files even though there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the mp4 files just to see if I could reproduce the same scenario.) I also checked that the thumbnail markers were in the correct place. Now two of the thumbs were generated correctly with 2 incorrect ones. The ones that were incorrect were consistent, meaning that the thumbs were identical to the first run.

Firstly, this doesn't sound as if you're doing anything wrong
