The Developers have come to me explaining they are having trouble with the build server.

Per your description, it should be related to temp folder. So, please check the 'temporary' activity logs which reside on the server (eg : user\appdata\local\temp\buildagent\..:), check that are there any large log files in the folder. Try to delete them (backup first if needed), you can also try to change the Temp and TMP to another location which with enough space on it.
