The redirect URI is essentially the way to authenticate that you are who you say you are (i.e., the app in question) in scenarios where it's not safe to use a client secret (i.e., a web browser where a use could just right click and view the source to get the secret).

You store your redirect uri with us via the Live Connect Developer Center.  In your calling code you specify the redirect uri, and on our end we check that the two match.
