I downloaded kinect sdk 1.8 to two computers. Neither work. The scanner works fine on the xbox.

First computer - laptop - get a usb surge warning every time I plug in the Kinect, then it disables my USB ports.

Second computer - drivers do not initialize when Kinect plugged in. Other devices plugged into the same USB work fine. For some reason, it just doesn't recognize the Kinect regardless of USB port it is plugged into. Does not even give me an "installing drivers" or any indication that it even knows something is plugged in. Again, same port, different device is not a problem.

I downloaded Visual Studios Express 2013, uninstalled and reinstalled SDK 1.8 (first time trying to get this to work, so no other sdk or software previously used). I am using a powered cable. No light on the Kinect when not plugged into the computer (but power light on cord is on).

Just found out I have USB on the laptop that is not compatible. Not sure how to find out what is on the PC, but the Device Manager has Texas Instruments USB hub and SHCI controller, so thinking that is it? If so, not listed as potential problem.
