I find the use of MSDN Search more effective than Forum searching for development Forums.

Perhaps you could add that functionality in Forums for development? I'm not sure too many people who access development Forums even know it's available.

As an example posters on the Visual Basic forum may not know they can use it to research answers before posting questions that are already answered.

Or perhaps they do and are too lazy to use it to search for answers to their questions before posting questions in an instant gratification society.

The search which we have invested in is entirely different than what is in production today. Forums currently does not handle its own search. Because of this it is a slightly broken experience once you make a search on the site. With the new search experience a user can really customize their scope (select multiple forums/categories) before a search is performed. As you can see in the image below, multiple forums were selected with the search results inline. Hope this helps!
