I''m starting a new project and I really don''t want to use C# and .net. I want to go back to C++ but I haven''t upgraded to 2012 yet the last version I have is VS 2008. I''m asking if there is any good reason to upgrade to 2012 and if MFC has lost some weight and would be worth using. I used WTL in the past but it seems to have died about three years ago. I''ve used all of the above since about 1994, and if I had to create a C++ project today to do something for myself (or similarly without boundaries on platform/framework/libraries) I would do it with MFC. A lot of people have the religion that something that is old is obsolete, which I do not follow. MFC indeed has its warts, but it is popular, useful and many things in it are done right.

My feeling is that MFC will outlive its current list of Microsoft competitors (ie. native C++, ATL, WTL, C++/CLI, ...).
