Is there a way to auto populate the Work Item Global list with the versions created in TFS 2015. Similar to the one for list of builds as mentioned in the following link: https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/ms194965.aspx

Which versions you want to show in the global list? Did you want to list changesets of TFVC?

The XAML builds list in the Globallist. But there haven’t versions list in the GlobalList.xml. So you could not auto populate global List with the Versions.
