Hi, we just had our family reunion and I've written an Access 2010 program to keep track of the whole thing including sign-in, relationships, teacup auction, etc.  I asked for suggestions to make it better for next year and I'll probably be upgrading to the latest version of Access by then.  We are outside in a state park and we have many 'older' people who can't hear too well, so it was suggested that the data be made available on a local wifi so participants could pick it up on their cell phones.  I'm hoping that Access has a command or use an api to accomplish this; I am not versed in the latest of technologies so I would welcome ideas.  What I picture is the program running on my laptop and it sending data to a connected router every time the data changes and people linking to the router to view the data.   i.e. I'm hoping a person could enter 2 names and the program will figure out their relationship and send it right back to their phone; or when a person gets there, they can register or sign in using their phone.   Is this a correct model or am I way off base.  There isn't much available in terms of equipment because we are in a state park, so it will have to be basically powered by my laptop.  Does anyone think this is possible or should I forget the whole thing.   I do use a 32" external screen to show the data but I wanted to personalize it more.  We usually have about 90 - 100 in attendance so probably 20 or so phones might connect, if that makes any difference in the set up.  Thank you in advance for your response.   Gil

Your options are pretty limited here. For starters, connecting to an Access database over WiFi is not really recommended. If you're able to serve web pages from your laptop, then I'd say it would be a better choice. However, it would mean you'll need to use web technologies such as .Net or PHP or Java to have people use their phones to access your data. Access could still be your data storage, but you'll have to extract the data out of Access and serve it to the users via a web technology. If you want them to make changes to the data, you will use the same web technology to take their input and update the Access tables using code running on your server/laptop.
